Collection Letters

The Government's Financial Management sends out general collection letters for the National Treasury's collection agencies. If payment has not been made before the final due date the letters are sent out to those who owe 5000 ISK or more. The collection letter is still sent even though taxation is carried out in accordance with the Tax Authorities' schedule, the taxation has been formally disputed or a payment schedule has been made to pay the liabilities.

The general collection letters are sent out to inform taxpayers of their payment status with the Treasury's collection agency. It is also a reminder of the payment due and an encouragement pay in order to prevent collection efforts and accumulation of costs.
